European championship without Mirkovic

Zoran Mirkovic

Geneva, Switzerland, January 20th - Yugoslav football team will participate at this year's European Championship in Belgium and Netherlands without Zoran Mirkovic. UEFA reduced his ban from four to three matches due to the excluding from the qualifications match against Croatia in Zagreb. This means that the Juventus player will miss all the matches in the group and return to the game only if Yugoslavia places into quarterfinals of the European Championship.

Before UEFA's decision, the Yugoslav head coach Vujadin Boskov announced that he would take Mirkovic to the Championship in case his ban was reduced to one, eventually two games in the official matches. Since it did not occur, Mirkovic will, due to his hasty move, be excluded from the list for this year's biggest football competition.
